Sailing to the BVI's

We had a 90 mile sail to complete so just after sunrise we had a cup of tea and some fresh croissants to boost the energy supply. We tried to set the sails but the winds weren't favourable so we continued to motor. At around 8:30am we surprised by a pod of 5 dolphins with pink and white bellies playing on the bow wave. Ian and I both got photos and video. The little dolphins stayed with us for 45 minutes and this was a really nice distraction from the long day ahead. At 11am the swell and wind had increased. It was very rough and I only went downstairs for a nature break and to grab food. We still had 35 nautical miles to sail. Ian noticed the fuel tank in the dinghy had become lose and although dangerous had no option but to get in the dinghy to right it. I gave him permission as long as he put a life jacket on. I slowed down the yacht and he leap frogged into the dinghy only just grabbing hold of it. After he solved the problem getting back on Faraway was worse and all I could see was his fright night face backdropped with a huge wave behind him as he leapt back on to our yacht and grabbed the rail. He was glad to be back on board safely and then rushed downstairs to change his shorts! He promised me this was the last batman stunt but later in the day we had a repeat performance when the tow rope got caught around the outboard and he had to climb back on the dinghy to free it. This time the swells were even bigger but luckily practice makes perfect and he got on and off again safely. Suddenly land was in sight. We could see the islands ahead of us and we navigate through Round Rock and Ginger Island, up past the Baths to St. Thomas Bay off Spanish Town. We had a well deserved swim off the back of the yacht and I cooked spaghetti for dinner washed down with some beers. It was a relief to be safely at anchor in a calm bay after the last day's drama although Ian got up at least 4 times during the night to check the anchor and managed to bang his head every time. Duh.
