Spanish Town
Monday, January 10 we had to clear immigration in Spanish Town. First we had to raise the BVI flag which I did in fine style. The marina and shopping village area of Spanish Town was really nicely laid out and welcoming to visitors. There were a lot of Sunsail yachts in the marina with holidaymakers doing bareboat charters. We cleared immigration and decided to head for Virgin Gorda Sound where we could find some shelter. Unfortunately the bad weather had followed us to the BVI's. We sailed past Necker Island which belongs to Richard Branson and wondered whether he was in town or not. His island retreat costs US$40,000 per day if you want to rent it out. Not at the moment thanks! We entered Gorda Sound and saw the Bitterend Yacht club which was very famous in the area. On our budget we had to settle for anchoring off Prickly Pear Island. I nice desolate island with no facilities but the snorkelling was pretty good and I found a coral bommie with 4 huge lobsters feeding on small fish. Unfortunately we didn't have a permit to catch them although it was very tempting!
