Saba Island and Diving
On Friday, January 28 we left the marina bound for Saba Island. Saba is a volcanic island best know for the great diving. We had a pretty good sail there with big swells and winds around 15 to 20 knots. The island is really mysterious as you approach it even by day. We moored in Fort Bay to clear customs and I went to check out the dive shops. It was really rolly on the mooring and very difficult to get in and out of the tender. Several more bruises later and we managed to get into the bay. I chose Sea Saba and they were excellent to dive with. The first dive was to 30 metres on the pinnacle at close encounters. It was an amazing volcanic pinnacle that loomed up out of the blue. The contrast of the soft corals and the volcanic surroundings created an unusual landscape for diving. We saw a grey nurse shark, French Angelfish (there's a new one), moray eels and stingrays.
